IES hosts table tennis tourney – 18 teams representing 7 Indian schools participate

KUWAIT CITY, May 16: The Indian Educational School, Kuwait, hosted the 18th CBSE cluster table tennis tournament for girls with the participation of 18 teams representing seven Indian schools under four categories — Under-11, Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19.

On day one 21 matches were played and on day two, the matches started as usual with all the semifinals being lined for the day. Girls fought hard to establish their supremacy and the cluster winners under the four categories were Indian Public School, Kuwait for U-11; the Fahaheel Al Watanieh Private School, U-14; the Fahaheel Al Watanieh Private School U-17 and the Indian Community School Kuwait, U-19.

Before the tournament began the girls escorted by their physical education teachers to a rousing welcome from the Bhavans staff and students.  Bhavans Physical Education Director Murugaiyan briefed the coaches and the managers of the team about the rules and the regulations governing the tournament.

Principal of Bhavans, T. Premkumar who is a table tennis player himself addressed the students and the staff from the visiting schools and emphasized on the importance of such meets involving the Indian schoolchildren. He urged the participants to play and enjoy every game irrespective of the outcome.

For the closing ceremony the special guest was Sr Serena Lobo, Principal of the Carmel School. She congratulated all the participants in the tournament.

Premkumar welcomed the gathering and in his address he congratulated the students for playing table tennis in all fairness and team spirit.
