KUWAIT CITY, March 1: Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs Department at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Mazen Al-Jarrah has confirmed the government continues to track down those who acquired the Kuwaiti nationality on the strength of forged documents, reports Al-Rai daily.

The senior official added, this is an ongoing process but the only difference is earlier the department made public the discovery in forgeries of documents but now the work is carried out in total secrecy. As an example he cited a case of forgery which was discovered two days ago and the file has already been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Al-Jarrah added, the government will not remain silent in case of fraud being discovered given the sanctity of this document. Al-Jarrah denied there has been pressure on his Department to halt the work. On the other hand, in response to a query about the hike in charges for services offered to expatriates, Al-Jarrah said: “This was overdue. If it was within my capacity, I would impose charges without hesitation. The expatriates in Kuwait pay less fees compared to the size of salaries they earn.” He added all countries have increased fees for services provided for expatriates, except Kuwait, which has been the most lenient nation in this regard. “We have submitted a proposal to the legislature and wish it will soon be approved,” he said.
