Govt condemns Syria strikes on civilian targets in Aleppo

KUWAIT CITY, May 3, (KUNA): The Cabinet on Monday condemned the Syrian regime’s continued airstrikes on gathering places of civilians, residential areas and hospitals in Aleppo city over the last days.
During its weekly meeting, held under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the cabinet stressed that these airstrikes, which killed and wounded several innocents, including children, violate all international charters and humanitarian laws, and run counter to Islam and all religions.
The ministers renewed their call for the international community to put an end to these humanitarian disasters and brutal crimes committed by the regime against the Syrian people. Afterwards, they discussed the latest political developments on both Arab and international levels. It hoped a speedy recovery for those injured and stressed Kuwait’s firm stance which rejects all criminal acts targeting the innocents and destabilizing nations.
The ministers said the State of Kuwait stressed that it stands side by side with Turkey and Turkish people in the face of criminal acts, and supports it in all measures taken to maintain its security. The cabinet also condemned the blast that hit Turkey’s Bursa city last Wednesday and killed and wounded several victims.
The ministers voiced their satisfaction about the progress made by Kuwait on the UN e-governments ranking report of 2016. Kuwait advanced from the 49th place in 2014 to the 40th place in 2016 out of 193 countries, and ranked third among the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council states after Bahrain and UAE. Earlier, the cabinet reviewed the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s letter to His Highness the Amir, which addressed the bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in political, economic, and cultural fields.
The cabinet reviewed Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak’s letter to His Highness the Premier, which included an official invitation to His Highness the Premier to visit Malaysia. It was also informed about the official delegation that would accompany His Highness the Prime Minister on his official Asian tour, which includes Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, and Bangladesh, during the period May 3-13.
It noted that Deputy Prime Minister of Finance and Acting Oil Minister Anas Al-Saleh and Minister of Education and Higher Education Bader Al-Essa would accompany His Highness the Premier. Meanwhile, the cabinet reviewed the outcome of the recent visit of Australia’s Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and his accompanying delegation to Kuwait, including his talks with His Highness the Amir.
The cabinet also listened to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s explanation on the outcome of his participation at the 17th consultative meeting of GCC interior ministers, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
