‘GCC must step up efforts to curb illegal arms, extremism’

KUWAIT CITY, April 18 (KUNA): Assistant Undersecretary for Special Security Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Mahmoud Al-Dousari stressed the importance of exchanging experiences among authorities of GCC member states, reinforcing security procedures and improving the level of training to confront the challenges facing the region.

During the inauguration of the activities of the 21st GCC meeting to be held in Kuwait on April 20 among officials of weapons and explosives sectors, Major General Al-Dousari said the meeting is being organized based on directives from the GCC leaders with the aim of exchanging experiences.

He stressed the need to increase efforts in all GCC countries to eliminate the phenomenon of the use of illegal weapons particularly under the current circumstances of the region and the prevalence of radical ideologies. Major General Al-Dousari revealed that the meeting will tackle the possibility of implementing the comprehensive GCC strategy and the decisions of Ministers of Interior regarding the spread of weapons and explosives.
