KUWAIT CITY, Oct 16: The Court of Appeals has overturned the verdict of the Court of First Instance that sentenced a GCC national to three years in prison with hard labor and KD 1,000 fine over alleged gun running. The appellate court thereby acquitted the defendant of the allegation.

The case file indicated the Public Prosecution Department accused the defendant of possessing a large quantity of guns, pistols and bullets without securing authorization from concerned authorities. He purportedly kept illegal firearms for the purpose of sale. Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz in defense of the accused faulted the procedures of arrest and search. He solicited the court to discard the entire procedure of his client’s arrest as null and void since it did not follow the rule of law. He argued that testimonies of the prosecution of officer should be regarded as inconsequential.
