Five Kuwaitis acquitted of fighting for, funding ISIL

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: The Criminal Court has acquitted five citizens of participating in the fight and funding the banned group – ISIL. Four of the accused have allegedly fought against the Iraqi Army in Biyaji area and various parts of Syria. Earlier, the Public Prosecution charged four of the accused of participating in a banned organization by carrying out hostile actions against a friendly country, thereby, jeopardizing Kuwait’s relations with Iraq, and even its security. The other was charged with funding the ISIL and facilitating procurements for the other four in order to join and fight along with the banned group against a friendly country.

Man absolved in drugs case: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Waleed Al-Kandari acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of possessing hashish and crystal meth with the intention of consuming them. According to the case file, when the suspect reached a security checkpoint while driving in Egaila area, he attempted to run away by foot. While running, he dropped a small transparent bag containing substances that looked like drugs. The officers managed to arrest him and referred him with the confiscated bag to the concerned authorities. During the court session, defense counsel Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan insisted that the procedures for the arrest and searching of his client were done illegally. He indicated that his client was neither under any suspicion nor caught red-handed, therefore urging the court to acquit his client.

Fight case adjourned: The Misdemeanor Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Al-Dueij, adjourned until March 7, 2016 the hearing on a case about the fight that broke out in the corridors of Justice Palace involving some members of the ruling family, children of martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad, and Attorneys Loai Al-Kharafi and Ibrahim Al-Kandari. Case files indicate the Public Prosecution charged Ajeel Al-Shaheen with attacking Sheikhs Othba, Khaled and Dhari Al-Fahad. In the same context, the prosecution charged Sheikhs Othba, Khaled and Dhari Al-Fahad of insulting and attacking Al-Kharafi and Al-Kandari, in addition to preventing them from performing their duties as lawyers. Meanwhile, the prosecution suspended the lawsuit concerning offenses against the entity of HH the Amir and his authority, filed by Sheikh Othba Al-Fahad against Al-Kharafi and Ibrahim Al-Kandari.

‘Royal’ gets jail: The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Abdallah Al-Othman, imposed a five-year jail term on a ruling family member for stealing from an Egyptian and demanded for a guarantee of KD 200 to suspend implementation of the decision until the final verdict is issued, reports Al-Seyassah daily. On the other hand, another judge ordered extension of the detention of a Kuwaiti accused of burning his citizenship document and uttering words deemed offensive to the entity of HH the Amir and his authority. This came after the citizen appeared in a video clip posted on a social communication website where he was seen burning his passport and insulting the entity of HH the Amir.

Wife humiliated: The Public Prosecution has filed a case against a Kuwaiti man for removing the hijab of his wife in public, tearing her clothes and beating her until she fell to the ground, reports Al-Anba daily. The daily added, this happened when the husband barged into a café and caught his wife smoking sheesha with her friend. The woman has submitted a medical report showing injuries on her body.
