KUWAIT CITY, March 30: As the Ministry of Health recorded 20 new cases of novel coronavirus recently, there is severe epidemiological fear among four nationalities in relation to spread of the virus — Indians, Bangladeshis, Filipinos and Somalis; in addition to two cases among citizens, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

Sources disclosed the frequency of cases associated with this pandemic increased to a record of 12 within a day, while the total of this type of infection reached 21 cases – 19 are concentrated among three nationalities considered as the largest communities in the country, which may increase challenges faced by health authorities.

Sources said more than one case of coronavirus had been detected in residential buildings in Mahboula, involving an Indian technician working for a private company.

Sources revealed the case was discovered within five buildings inhabited by more than 600 people who have been in contact with these cases of Asian workers, pointing out the need to take precautionary measures.

The number of cases which are still being investigated reached eight – two citizens, three Indians, a Somalian, Bangladeshi and Filipino. So far, those under suspicion of infection due to being in direct contact with the infected include nine Indians, three Bangladeshis and a Somalian, sources added. Sources said one of the three Indians, who works as a tailor, is among the cases of epidemiological investigation, as he infected three of the same nationality; whereas another Indian – a technician, transmitted the virus to three others, and a Bangladeshi working in an industrial area infected three others. Sources explained that the physical address of the eight infected people, whose conditions are under investigation, are not related in anyway, and they have no relationship with each other. This increases the risk of infection and its repercussions.

The competent departments in the ministry are trying hard to the decode the source of these infections, sources affirmed. Faced with this reality, sources expect an increase in the number of cases during the coming period; with evacuation fl ights continuing for citizens from abroad and increased rates of suspected cases, which reached 130 cases during previous fl ights until Sunday.
