Farms, livestock pens, stables target in new ‘arms’ campaign

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29: Director-General of the General Department of Weapons Investigation, Major-General Faraj Al- Zuabi has announced the launch of the third phase of an extensive campaign to collect weapons that will target animal livestock pens, farms and stables in mid-November, reports Al- Anba daily.
He indicated the sector will begin within the next week to hold meetings with the Public Prosecutor to coordinate efforts to get permission from the National Assembly. He added, a meeting was held with senior officials of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs, public security and traffic, rescue and Special Forces to coordinate efforts.
Speaking to the daily, Major-General Al-Zuabi told the daily extreme efforts have been exerted by the Interior Ministry upon instructions from the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Suleiman Al-Fahad and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security, Major-General Abdul Hamid Al-Awadhi. In this regard Major-General Al- Zuabi said since the day the amnesty to hand over weapons ended on June 23, 2015, a total of 57 cases of possessing and trafficking in weapons and ammunition have been referred by the General Administration of Weapons Investigation to the Public Prosecution.
The Director General of the General Department of Weapons Investigation against the backdrop of cases referred to the Public Prosecution, said the number of detainees and those involved in the cases of trafficking and possession reached 109 mostly citizens.
On the weapons collection during the campaign Major-General Al-Zuabi said 8,660 pieces of weapons of all kinds had been collected from all governorates. And about the number of people authorized to carry a weapon, Major- General Al Zuabi said at the outset it must be emphasized that the license to carry a weapon does not mean one can walk around town carrying a weapon just because he has a licence. He added 39,000 licenses have been granted by the Interior Ministry so far to carry a weapon.
Meanwhile, the General Department for Weapons Investigations has arrested a Kuwaiti for possessing illegal arms and ammunitions, says a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior.
The press release said the arrest came after the department received a tip-off from an unidentified source. After ascertaining the validity of the information and investigations conducted by the authorities, police raided his home and found a gun and the ammunition which was hidden in one of the livestock pens in Mutla’a.
