Expats create chaos during distribution of food aid in Hawally area

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 14: Hawally area witnessed a state of chaos, stampede and undisciplined behavior that necessitated the intervention of the special forces and postponed the distribution of food aid for need expats until next day to be carried on by the Red Crescent Society.

Sources said that the number of expats who were present at the distribution site crowd exceeded over 1,000, while the Red Crescent vehicles attended in addition to the presence of members of the Special Forces and the Ministry of Interior and Civil Defense.

The sources explained what happened that was because of lack of organizers and large numbers of workers which led to many people breaking up from the queue despite of some were waiting from 2pm.

The Special Forces broke up the gathering after the chaos and stampede using force while the Red Crescent team left.

In the context, the Secretary General of the Red Crescent Society, Maha Al-Rajes, said that they were in Hawally to distribute the food baskets but that it was postponed today and will be replaced the morning period and at night.

The association had intended to distribute 1,000 food parcels to the affected families in the Hawally region but the stampede caused it to be postponed to a later time.
