KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Several female expatriate teachers are struggling to escape the sword of forced mass retirement that has emerged lately in Ministry of Education. Due to this, they have been changing their specialties, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They said the female teachers found respite in the idea of changing specialties in order to avoid their contracts from being terminated, in line with the replacement policy that Ministry of Education announced almost year ago. The sources explained that the policy indicates 25 percent of teachers of specialties which have excessive number of needed teachers will be offloaded.

Many of the concerned teachers at all levels of education such as elementary, intermediate and secondary have reportedly applied for change of specialty. They stated that the department approved the applications of those who met the necessary conditions and regulations guiding their request.

The sources explained that the main condition is that the major specialty should be relevant to the specialty for which the applicant applied.

They must have acquired certain number of years of experience, and passed a personal interview in the target specialty to be organized by the Technical Guidance Department.
