KUWAIT CITY, April 12: The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Adel Al-Huweidi, sentenced Twitter user Ahmad Al-Ashour to two years in jail with guarantee of KD 1,000 to suspend implementation of the verdict for three years and instructed him to maintain good conduct. Previously, the Public Prosecution released Al-Ashour on bail of KD 2,000 after interrogating him as he was accused of uttering words deemed offensive to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through his personal Twitter account. Meanwhile, the same court sentenced former MP Mubarak Al-Duweilah to two years in prison with a guarantee of KD 1,000 to suspend the verdict for three years and for him to maintain good conduct. The verdict was issued in relation to a television interview, in which he was accused of offending a friendly country — the United Arab Emirates. Al-Duweilah denied all charges filed against him.

Bid foiled to sell fake bills: Abu Dhabi police foiled an attempt by five individuals, including the managing director of a clinic, to sell forged KD 20 notes worth 100 thousand, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Director of Abu Dhabi Criminal Investigation Department Colonel Rashid Al-Bourasheed stated the suspects, including two British nationals (father and son), tried in vain to exchange the above-mentioned sum for 1.2 million dirhams. He explained that the sector received a tip-off late last month regarding a person willing to sell counterfeit KD 20 notes worth KD 100,000 for 1.2 million dirhams, which is below the exchange market price. The notes had been forged using advanced technology and the suspects were searching for unsuspecting individuals to cheat. Some of the suspects have since been arrested.

Saudi arrested for forgery: A Saudi national, who has been banned from traveling for involvement in an undisclosed case, was arrested recently for forgery. In a press statement, the Public Relations and Security Media Department at the Interior Ministry confirmed receiving a tipoff that the accused has been traveling to and from Saudi Arabia despite the ban. The Investigation Department immediately carried out a thorough investigation until the information was verified.
