‘Eid on July 6’

KUWAIT CITY, June 28: Astronomy and Space Department at Kuwait Scientific Club announced that Wednesday, July 6, 2016 will be the first day of Eid Al-Fitr and the first day of Shawwal for 1437 AH, astronomically.

In a statement, the Director of Astronomy and Space Bader Hamoud Al-Omaira said concurrence of the birth of Shawwal crescent will be at exactly 2:01 pm local time on Monday, July 4 corresponding to 29th of Ramadan (the day of sighting).

He noted the moon will set at exactly 6:43 pm, whereas setting of the sun will happen at 6:51 pm, indicating the moon will set before the sun by almost 8 minutes.

He cited the juxtaposition observed just before sunset as the most important condition of sighting the crescent by naked eye, and noted the crescent after setting of the sun should be an arc of seven degrees from the horizon.

In that case, Tuesday, July 5 will be the last day of Ramadan and Wednesday, July 6 the first day of Eid Al-Fitr and Shawwal. Happy Eid in advance!!!
