Egyptian gang of revenue stamps forgers busted

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 23: Two members of a gang have been arrested for forging government revenue stamps of value KD 10 which are used for carrying out transactions related to residency, health insurance and other governmental services.

In a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the General Department of Public Relations and Media Security explained that investigations were carried out by the General Department for Residency Security Affairs after receiving information about a gang specialized in forging revenue stamps.

After confirming the information and taking necessary legal measures, an undercover agent was sent to the gang for purchasing 400 stamps of value KD10 each for KD 2,000 at a pre-decided location opposite the building of the Residency Affairs Department in Jahra Governorate. Two Egyptians were arrested in possession of the forged stamps.

When questioned, they confessed that the stamps are forged, explaining that they obtained the stamps from a man in Egypt to whom they gave their orders to the accomplice via telephone and would receive commission for selling the stamps.

A misdemeanor case was filed against the suspects and they have been referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action The General Department of Public Relations and Media Security urged Kuwaiti citizens and expatriates to ensure they buy the genuine revenue stamps which can be obtained from the government offices.
