Ease on travel restrictions eyed – ‘No jab , no entry’

KUWAIT CITY, June 6: The persons in charge at Kuwait International Airport are currently studying the possibility of easing travel restrictions in view of the resumption of airport traffic in many countries after easing procedures for passengers and this could lead to an increase in the operational capacity of Kuwait’s airport this month, reports Al-Rai daily quoting reliable sources from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Sources affirmed the epidemiological index in the country continues to stabilize, so intensive meetings with the concerned authorities are being held in a bid to lay down a comprehensive vision that will pave way for the submission of the final report on preparations for receiving passengers to the Council of Ministers. Sources disclosed the suggestions include increasing the capacity from 10 percent to 30 percent for departing and arriving passengers, and allowing the entry of expatriates provided they are fully vaccinated with any of the vaccines approved in Kuwait and they hold valid residency permits. Sources also unveiled a plan to set the quota for arriving passengers under strict conditions – the most important of which is being fully vaccinated with any of the vaccines approved and officially recognized in Kuwait as follows: Pfizer, AstraZeneca-Oxford, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.

Sources said the arriving passengers will be required to undergo PCR test within three days of arrival in the country and the quarantine period ends once the test result come out negative. Sources pointed out this is the same procedure currently applied on citizens entering the country, indicating the arriving passengers who got only one dose of any of the approved vaccines are required to undergo institutional quarantine for one week and home quarantine for another week. Sources clarified the country bans the entry of unvaccinated individuals as part of the intensified measures to curb the spread of corona. Sources added Kuwait’s airport is currently witnessing an increase in the number of citizens who are traveling for study and tourism purposes, while some expatriates are traveling to their countries which they have not been able to do for more than a year due to the pandemic.
