Dubai cancels live entertainment at hotels and restaurants, bans non essential surgeries as Covid cases increase

DUBAI: Dubai has cancelled live entertainment at hotels and restaurants and banned nonessential surgery until further notice as new coronavirus cases begin to flare up again.

The measure, which takes effect on Thursday, comes in the wake of some 200 violations of COVID-19 precautions at hotels and restaurants across the bustling metropolis, said a Dubai tourism department circular. In an effort to protect public health, around 20 establishments were ordered to close after fl outing safety rules, according to the notice, which said that tougher restrictions would be introduced if the health situation warrants it.

The ban on non-essential surgery will last until February 19, Dubai’s health regulator said,adding the decision aims to ensure that healthcare facilities are well prepared to deal with a potential upsurge in new COVID-19 cases. The UAE has seen an exponential rise in daily COVID-19 infections, having logged 3,529 new cases and four deaths over the past day. (KUNA)
