KUWAIT CITY, May 25: The security authorities have arrested an unidentified businessman and a senior security officer working for the Criminal Investigations Department for fabricating a drug-possession charge against a Kuwaiti, reports Al-Rai daily.

A security source said a Kuwaiti couple befriended the businessman a few months ago and the latter taking advantage of the friendship started harassing the man’s wife. When the couple filed a complaint with the Director-General of Criminal Investigation Department Major- General Mahmoud Al-Tabbakh, he immediately assigned a senior officer in the department to interrogate the businessman. According to a judicial source, the detective weaved a relationship with the accused during the investigation and exchange of visits.

The source added the businessman offered valuable presents to the officer including a fiber-glass boat, and a car and paid for his leisure trips outside the country and even offered him pocket money. The detective then wanted to repay the favor so he fabricated a drug case against the Kuwaiti by inserting a small quantity of drugs in one of the tires of his cars.

He then took legal procedures and arrested the Kuwaiti and referred him to the authorities on a charge of possessing and consuming drugs. Later it was discovered the Kuwaiti man has no record at the General Department for Drugs Control and the blood test analysis showed no traces of drugs. To the contrary reports showed a close relationship between the officer and the businessman.

Following this the Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant Major Sulaiman Al-Fahd ordered investigations which confirmed the strong relationship between the officer and the businessman, who during interrogation said he wanted to take revenge on the Kuwaiti in cooperation with the officer. The businessman and the police officer have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
