Detention of 11 officers in ‘cheating’ case extended

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: Sentences Renewal Judge ordered the detention of 11 officers for 10 more days to complete investigation on allegations leveled against them for manipulating fingerprint attendance system in the Ministry of Electricity and Water. At the last session, all defendants pleaded not guilty and denied forging fingerprints or taking bribes, and the defense team solicited bail on their behalf but the judge denied the request. Earlier, the Ministry of Electricity and Water referred the accused to the Public Prosecution on allegations of manipulating the fingerprint system to register their attendance while they were still abroad.
Fadhli jail upheld: The Appeals Court upheld the verdict of the First Instance Court that earlier sentenced the political activist in Bedoun cases Abdulhakim Al-Fadhli to one year in prison with hard labor followed by deportation. The court also upheld one year imprisonment sentence and KD 200 fine for suspension of the verdict issued against five Bedouns accused of participating in an unlicensed rally at Taima. The defendants are to be deported for taking part in the rally. Al-Fadhli had been arrested by securitymen in a hot chase at Ahmadi governorate in the course of which his vehicle collided with a patrol car. The Public Prosecution accused Al-Fadhli of attending an unlicensed rally and inciting people to protest.
