KUWAIT CITY, Aug 11: The demand for Filipino domestic workers in Kuwait is on the rise and this has led to the significant increase in costs, reports Al-Rai daily. Sources told the daily the cost of recruiting a Philippines female domestic worker ranges between 1,400 and 1,600 dinars, including 890 for the office and the remainder is the cost of institutional quarantine, PCR tests and the ticket.

The sources emphasized these costs are to be borne by the sponsor. If the sponsor wants to bring the worker directly without the help of the maids recruiting office and if the employer has the copy to employee’s passport, the cost will be 890 dinars only, including all expenses, but in that case there will be no guarantee for the worker in the event of her escaping from the sponsor’s home or refusing to work. The sources expected these numbers to rise due to the imposition of a total ban in Manila from August 5 to 20, and the high cost of labor agencies in the Philippines. According to the sources, the resumption of recruitment began in May and continued in June, July, and August and that so far many are scheduled to arrive next September. The sources stated about 7 percent of domestic workers came tested positive before coming to Kuwait, and were not allowed to board the plane.
