MoI team visits place for illegal residents

KUWAIT CITY, May 17: “In coordination with the National Office for Human Rights, a tour was conducted of one of the shelters in Mishref, where there are a number of expatriates – violators of the residence law – who have taken benefit of the amnesty issued by the Ministry of Interior which allows them to leave the country without paying fines,”

The Director of Security Relations and Media Department, Brigadier Tawhid Al-Kandari

The Director of Security Relations and Media Department, Brigadier Tawhid Al-Kandari explained the shelters which are built for the residence law violators enjoy all means of a decent life — meals, treatment and all their needs, and today “our visit comes as an affirmation of the principle of transparency of the Ministry of Interior to inform human rights organizations on the conditions of these communities” and the human rights teams have expressed their satisfaction for all care and services that have been provided to them, adding that all they need is to leave for their countries.

Al-Kandari says he hopes the respective countries will speed up the process of evacuating them so that they do not stay longer in the shelters, stressing Kuwait is a country of humanity and these are our guests and they enjoy full care.

On the question of ‘disturbances’ caused by some in shelters, Al-Kandari explained, “We cannot call these disturbances ‘riots’, because they were expressing their feelings and raising their voices and protest through some channels to send their messages and demands to their countries’ governments to facilitate their departure procedures without delay. However, legal measures have been taken against those who incited some violators and caused some of the gathering to take appropriate punishment towards those who are trying to destabilize the security of the homeland.”

Al-Kandari concluded by saying: “We are waiting for some countries to initiate the request and evacuate their nationals, and there are many countries that have already opened the airspace, including the Philippines, who left within 5 days, as well as the Republic of Egypt, which so far has evacuated 4,000 violators and the remaining one thousand are expected to leave Saturday.”
