Customs foils two attempts to smuggle drugs from Iraq

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: Customs officers at the Abdali border post recently foiled two attempts to smuggle drugs into the country from Iraq, reports Al- Rai daily quoting security sources. The same sources said in the first attempt the suspect attempted to smuggle two kilos of hashish and in the second attempt a Syrian trucker attempted to smuggle 25,944 Captagon tablets hidden inside the tool box of his truck. The contrabands and the 2 suspects have been referred to the authorities.

Minister expresses anger: Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid said he is unhappy about the lawsuits which have been filed against unknown people because the number is too big, reports Al-Qabas daily. The daily added, in 2015 a total of 16,000 cases out of total 33,000 were filed against unknown people which amounts to 40 percent of the total number of cases. According to a security source the minister has demanded an explanation for not identifying the perpetrators of these crimes, failing to arrest them and bring them to justice although it is believed a majority of these crimes are believed to be ‘petty’ and does not harm either the security or stability of the country.
