KUWAIT CITY, March 20: The Misdemeanor Circuit of the Court of First Instance acquitted a woman who was accused of swindling money from a Kuwaiti citizen after convincing him to invest in her investment project. Defending the woman was Lawyer Mohammad Khalil Al-Qattan who explained that the crime of swindling, as per articles 231 and 232 of the Penal Code involves three factors, which are use of methods of deceit, possessing the victim’s money and criminal intention. He stressed that the case file does not include any information about the methods of deceit his client allegedly used for the plaintiff to give his money to her, adding that it also does not include any documents or receipts that prove his client had taken any money from the plaintiff.

Jail upheld: The Court of Cassation, headed by Judge Abdullah Jassem, has upheld the verdict of the Court of Appeals and sentenced seven 7 members of the Special Forces affiliated to the Ministry of Interior to various jail terms, ordered them to pay the value of the weapons and discharged them from service, reports Al-Jarida daily. The lower court had earlier sentenced the men to imprisonment ranging from seven to 10 years, paying the value of the ‘stolen’ weapons and dismissed them from service. The Public Prosecution had charged the men with stealing weapons and selling each stolen weapon for KD 400. The men had denied the charge although some of them were caught red-handed in possession of the stolen weapons. Meanwhile, the Criminal Court has suspended the threeyear jail of an unidentified ‘person’ who was accused of leaking an official letter signed between the then oil minister Ali Al-Omair and his former Saudi counterpart on Twitter, which would cause harmed mutual relations between the two countries. However, the court has set April 30 to hear what the defense lawyer has to say.
