Court sentences woman to 1 yr jail, KD 1,000 fine for offending judge

KUWAIT CITY, April 13: The Misdemeanor Court sentenced a Kuwaiti woman to one-year imprisonment and ordered her to pay a fine of KD 1,000 because she offended a judge while he was on official duty in the court. According to the case file, after the Kuwaiti woman insulted the judge, the head of the court ordered the guards to detain the suspect at the Justice Palace and submitted a petition against her at the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecution accused her of insulting a member of the judicial authority in public while he was on official duty.

 ‘Cell’ case set for April 20: The Court of Appeals postponed on Wednesday looking into the terrorist cell case No. 302/2016, in which 26 defendants are involved, to April 20 for further questioning of the accused. The court asked the Public Prosecution to address some government bodies to send reports concerning some defendants involved in the case. Today, the court heard from the defense, prior to postponing the session to April 20. Last Jan 12, the Criminal Court sentenced two of the defendants, the first and the 23rd one on the list of defendants in the terrorist cell, to death, while one of the accused in the 26 member cell was given a sentence of life imprisonment. Other accused defendants in the case received sentences from five to ten to 15 years in prison. One of them was fined about KD 5,000 while another was acquitted of all charges against him. Furthermore, the court ordered the confiscation of all weapons that were possessed by the terrorist cell. Last September, the public prosecutor lodged criminal charges against the terrorist cell known as the “Al-Abdali Cell,” in which 26 defendants were put on trial over possession of huge caches of weapons and ammunition, as well as espionage for Iran and Hezbollah. Woman held for drugs use: A Kuwaiti woman was arrested in Mangaf area for consuming drugs and for possessing methamphetamine and syringes used for injecting drugs. According to security sources, Ahmadi securitymen were patrolling Mangaf area when they noticed a woman sitting inside a parked vehicle and approached her. When they noticed that the woman was in a disoriented state, they checked her civil ID and discovered she is a Kuwaiti citizen. They found sachets containing methamphetamine and other drugs, five syringes and a spoon in her vehicle. She was arrested and referred with the confiscated items to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against her.

Diamond ring stolen: Police are looking for a Pakistani couple and four others for breaking into the apartment of a Pakistani couple in Salmiya and stealing a diamond ring and gold jewelry worth KD 2,000, reports Al-Anba daily. A security source said the couple has filed a complaint with the Salmiya Police Station accusing six compatriots of breaking into their apartment, assaulting them and stealing valuables. Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have lifted fingerprints to identify the culprits.

Border issues discussed: Assistant Undersecretary for Land Border Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, Major-General Sheikh Mohammed Al-Yousef yesterday met US military officers and personnel from the Iraqi army to coordinate and discuss border related issues between Kuwait and Iraq through sharing common information to ensure security at the border, reports Al-Shahed daily. All sides to the meeting stressed on the importance of cooperation to overcome obstacles.
