Court orders jail, fine in Speaker, MP spat – MP Dashti fined KD 30,000

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The Misdemeanors Court ruled in favor of Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouk Al-Ghanim and ordered the imprisonment of MP Abdul Rahman Al- Anjari and fined him KD 300, in a libel suit filed by the Speaker against the parliamentarian, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, the court also ordered the MP to pay KD 50 in fine to suspend the sentence.

Dashti fined: The Appeals Court, presided by Judge Jamal Al-Attal recently ordered MP Abdul Hameed Dashti to pay KD 30,000 compensation to former MP Mohammad Jassem Al-Saqr for alleged insults he heaped on the plaintiff via the social networking website Twitter, reports Al-Qabas daily. The Court of First Instance had earlier shelved the lawsuit filed by Al-Saqr when Dashti denied the accusations. However the e-Crimes Department proved the plaintiff right. Al-Saqr had demanded KD 100,000 compensation.

Blogger acquitted: The Criminal Court recently acquitted a blogger of the charge of using a fictitious account on the social media, attempting to overthrow the ruling system through the tweets and threatening the national interests of the country, reports Al- Qabas daily. An informed source said if found guilty the charge carried a death penalty. However, the court sentenced the same blogger to 3 years in jail for abusing a religious doctrine and abusing HH the Amir.
