KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The Court of Cassation ordered the arrest of a lawyer who was sentenced to four years in prison with hard labor, and referred him to the Central Prison. The court adjourned the case to February 12 for judgment. According to the case file, a citizen filed a complaint against the lawyer, after the latter took sums of money from him under the claim of paying the judge who is in charge of adjudicating a case related to his son.

The lawyer had fabricated the story of paying these sums to the judge. The citizen submitted to the Public Prosecution evidence including an audio recording of the lawyer requesting for KD 2,000 to pay to the judge in exchange for obtaining a judgment in favor of his son. However, he was surprised when an arrest warrant was issued against his son. This led the citizen to realize that the lawyer’s statements were not true.

The Public Prosecution summoned the lawyer, and questioned him based on the complaint, but the latter denied the accusations. The Court of Appeals had taken the audio recording as one of the pieces of evidence that proves the incident, after ensuring its authenticity and integrity. The incident included an insult to the judiciary of receiving sums of money in exchange for the desired rulings in cases at the courts. By Jaber Al-Hamoud Al-Seyassah/Arab Times Staff
