Court jails Kuwaiti to 7 yrs in maid’s rape – Not guilty in wife-bashing

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to seven-year imprisonment with hard labor for raping and threatening his domestic helper, reports Al-Qabas daily. The Public Prosecution charged the citizen of raping the housemaid after tying up her hands. The accused had denied the allegations. The prosecution called for a death sentence by hanging. Representing the victim was Lawyer Dana Nasrallah who presented her defense in a manner that was consistent with the findings of the forensic report which discovered DNA belonging to the accused. Lawyer Nasrallah demanded that the defendant must be punished in accordance with Article 186 of the Penal Code.

Man not guilty: The Misdemeanor Court acquitted a citizen of beating his wife and stealing KD 200 from her. Lawyer for the accused, Attorney Abdulrahman Al-Watari, argued in court that the accusations against his client were fabricated to force him to divorce his wife and grant her rights. Al-Watari pointed out the lack of evidence for the court to punish the accused. He said no one witnessed the alleged beating and stealing, indicating the wife fl ed from their house and she left her bag there. He added the plaintiff did not mention that her iPhone was inside the bag, thereby, arousing suspicion regarding the accusations hurled at his client.

Case dismissed: The Civil Commercial Circuit of the Court of First Instance dismissed a case filed be an entertainment company against an exhibition-organizing company and Ministry of Justice in which it requested the assignment of an expert to examine the file related to execution of court verdict to sell its property. According to the case file, the entertainment company had requested the assignment of an expert to examine the measures taken to sell its property and to prove that the sale was based on an invalid seizure of property which had been cancelled by a court verdict. The plaintiff company had submitted the petition in the Execution Department of Ministry of Justice where Lawyer Khawla Al-Hassawi pursued the execution procedures through which the property of the company was seized. Lawyer Al-Hassawi then filed a case, claiming that the seizure was invalid and should not be considered, but the court dismissed the lawsuit.

2 held with drugs: Two Kuwaiti citizens were arrested in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia in Fahaheel area. Ahmadi securitymen were patrolling the area when they suspected a vehicle with two occupants and ordered the driver to pull over. They checked the details of the two individuals to discover they are Kuwaiti citizens. Sensing their nervousness, securitymen checked the vehicle to find drugs and drug paraphernalia. They were arrested and referred with confiscated items to the concerned authorities for necessary leagal action. Meanwhile, Hawally securitymen arrested an Asian expatriate in possession of 20 bottles of locally manufactured liquor.
