Court ‘allows’ Kuwaiti woman to marry the man of her choice

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 30: The Personal Status Division of the appellate court presided over by Judge Khalid Al-Mendel allowed a Kuwaiti woman to marry a Bedoun man, reports Al-Shahed daily. Counsel to the Kuwaiti woman Lawyer Dhari Al-Zafiri had filed the case on behalf of his client. During the court session, he explained that his 28-year old client has the right to choose the person she wants to marry and her parents cannot object to her choice. He urged the court to allow her to marry the man of her choice. According to his client’s mother, the man is respectful, from a decent family and is capable of taking care and protecting her daughter and providing her with a decent lifestyle.

Students being charged: “5 KWD for 5 marks!” is the slogan of some faculty members in one of the university faculties, neglecting the values and principles of the noble teaching profession, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources. They revealed that some professors have been charging students for giving them five extra points. They indicated that such an act is not unprecedented and has been happening for many years. Most of the time, students remain silent out of fear that they will be negatively impacted in some way. The sources explained that such acts have been repeatedly occurring because some professors were appointed without following the normal procedures, especially with the interference of some external bodies in the process of appointing the professors in order to meet their personal interests.

‘Picture of man fake’: The administration of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital affirmed that the picture circulating on social media of a man sitting on a bed in front of a small gas cylinder and smoking allegedly inside the hospital is fake, reports Al-Rai daily. Deputy Director of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital Dr Mohsen Al-Ajmi affirmed that the hospital has nothing to do with the picture, stressing the keenness of the hospital personnel to apply the highest standard of safety and security conditions for the protection of patients.

KD 140, cigarettes stolen: An unknown individual, who was in an abnormal state, barged into a grocery shop in Hawally area with a chopper and forced the grocer to give him money and cigarettes, reports Al-Shahed daily. The grocer rushed to the police station of the area and reported the incident, informing securitymen that the suspect robbed him of KD 140 and a number of cigarette packs before fleeing in a white Japan-made vehicle in which another individual was waiting.

Final date not specified: Ministry of Interior has so far not specified the final date for the university non-commissioned officers to enroll in the course for officers, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources. They indicated that nearly 216 noncommissioned officers met the requirements in 2014, while 300 new applications were accepted by the ministry in 2015, making the total number of applicants 516.

Landmines destroyed: A military team succeeded in destroying some active landmines that were left behind in Mutla desert area by the Iraqi troops during the Iraqi invasion, reports Al-Shahed daily. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about some strange items in Mutla desert area, officers rushed to the location and discovered that they are remnants from the Iraqi invasion.
