KUWAIT CITY, Feb 3: Criminal Court acquitted a Saudi national of alleged consumption of methamphetamine inside his friend’s house in Jahra area. According to the case file, a team of Jahra securitymen rushed to Saad Al-Abdullah area after receiving a call from the owner of a building where a fight had erupted. He informed the officers that the brawlers were in a disoriented state and in possession of illicit drugs. Shortly after the quarrel was settled, securitymen noticed the defendant and his friends drop some sachets containing methamphetamine on the floor. The officers searched the defendant to find two wraps of tobacco with traces of blood and wounds on his body. However, Lawyer An’am Haider, during the court session, faulted the procedures followed for searching and arresting her client due to lack of a warrant from the Public Prosecution. She stressed that the police should not have collected samples of blood and urine due to which the results of those tests were untenable because “it is impossible to build something on nothing”.

Case referred: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Nawaf Al-Shurai’an has referred a lawsuit, which was filed by His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah against former MP Faisal Al-Mislim over some statements of the latter on Twitter which were regarded as malicious and libelous, to the head of the court until receiving the response to the demand of the judicial panel during the March 2nd session. According to the case file, Lawyer Emad Al-Saif, counsel to Sheikh Nasser, urged the court to impose a hefty penalty on the defendant. However, the defense counsel urged the court to postpone its ruling until the response is received. Meanwhile, the Sentences Enforcement Department issued an order for the arrest and detention of a Kuwaiti blogger Mubarak Al-Bughaili for enforcing a judicial verdict whereby the latter was ordered to pay Lawyer Emad Al-Saif KD 5,000 as legal fees payable to the attorney for defending Al-Bughaili in a lawsuit
