KUWAIT CITY, March 11: After storming the oil prices globally, causing economic catastrophes, and complicating the aviation sector’s condition throughout the world, the effect of the coronavirus outbreak is now hitting the private schools in Kuwait by causing them to suffer enormous losses as a result of suspension of studies and disruption of schools.

These losses can increase if schools will continue to be suspended until the end of this month, reports Al-Rai daily.

The President of the Union of Private Schools Omar Al Ghurair revealed that a three-hour meeting was held with the owners of private schools and representatives of their educational system, during which the subject of fees was discussed in light of the suspension of school. He said, “We are searching for an appropriate mechanism through which we can uphold the right of the investor and the parent.

Therefore, we are planning to meet the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Saud Al-Harbi to reach an appropriate formula that guarantees the rights of all parties.”

Al-Ghurair went on to say, “The Board of Directors, during the long meeting, addressed the crisis in all its aspects particularly in terms of holidays and absence. It also discussed the role of the ministry in this matter. We know that some parents will refrain from paying fees if the suspension of school lasts longer. That’s why we gathered to discuss this crisis.”

He stressed that, “The Cabinet had thankfully decided to compensate the owners of all Arab, foreign and bilingual schools as well as nurseries during the swine flu crisis that the country was exposed to in 2010 during which they were affected by Ministry of Education’s decision to temporarily suspend school.

The vision will become clearer in this crisis in the coming days, according to developments in the health situation and the period during which schools are suspended.”
