‘Decision violates Cabinet orders’

KUWAIT CITY, May 3: The Commerce Ministry’s recent decision to open the fish market in Sharq resulted in confusion; especially since Kuwait Municipality is the entity designated by the Council of Ministers to determine activities excluded from the closure order that is part of procedures to prevent further spread of corona virus.

Immediately after the Municipality received information on resumption of activities in the fish market, it sent a team to close the market again. The Municipality was surprised when the ministry issued the directive as it violates the decision of the Council of Ministers, sources revealed.

It can be recalled that on April 5, the Municipality issued a decision on the closure of all fish markets to limit commercial activities therein to cooperative societies, parallel markets, restaurants, hotels and fish stores. Deputy Director General for Municipal Affairs in the Capital and Jahra governorates Eng Faisal Al-Juma’a affirmed to the daily that the Municipality continues to implement the closure order in compliance with the instruction of the Municipality’s director.

He added the Municipality will send an offi- cial letter to the market’s administration to refrain from selling to the public in preparation for taking action against it.
