KUWAIT CITY, July 19: After the Kuwait Municipality announced its plan to confiscate abandoned cars in open grounds and roads until their owners are identified, responsible sources from the Municipality expressed fear of the possibility of storing arms and ammunition due to the lack of authority to open such vehicles and check the contents, reports Al-Rai daily.

Sources urged the concerned authorities in the State to take the necessary measures to inspect those vehicles, not just carry out inspection campaigns because abandoned vehicles are more dangerous. Director General of the Municipality Eng Ahmed Al-Manfouhi appealed to citizens and expatriates who park their vehicles in designated areas in case they are traveling in order to avoid confiscation.

On the other hand, Director General of the Public Relations and Security Media Department at the Interior Ministry Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash pointed out there is no need for exaggeration on such matters, especially since the Municipality plays its role efficiently.

He affirmed the ministry is doing its job and the vehicles are moved to other places if they affect traffic movement and road safety.
