Condolences offered on death of Nepali workers

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 13, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah sent Thursday a cable of condolences to President of Nepal Bidhya Devi Bhandari over the death of Nepalese workers in an accident at Al-Mutla’a housing project.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah also sent similar cables to President Bhandari. His Highness the Amir also sent cables of condolences to the families of the victims of the collapse.

In the cables, His Highness the Amir expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy over this sorrowful incident. His Highness the Amir prayed to Allah Almighty to bring solace to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah sent similar cables. National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim on Wednesday sent cables of condolences to the families of the victims of the collapse.

In the cables, Al-Ghanim voiced his sincere condolences and sympathy over this incident, praying to Allah Almighty to bring solace to the families of the victims. He wished those injured a speedy recovery.

Kuwait’s Public Works Minister and State Minister for Housing Dr Rana Al-Faris has tasked for the formation of an investigative committee into the construction site incident During her visit to the site, the minister underlined the need to “complete investigations swiftly in order to uncover any shortcomings and to hold the responsible official accountable in the event of negligence.”

According to a Public Authority for Housing Welfare statement, she stressed the need for a “detailed report” to be submitted on the incident, revealing its causes, in preparation for necessary legal measures to be taken towards those who are proven to be responsible.

Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) has, meanwhile, announced that rescue operations were completed at the Al-Mutla’a housing project site. Death toll climbed up to six people. Three others had been rescued immediately at the construction site, KFSD added. They also said that the Director General of KFSD Lieut Gen Khaled Al-Mekrad checked the incident site, tasking personnel to investigate circumstances that led to the accident
