KUWAIT CITY, April 26: The Ministry of Education intends to send a committee to India to recruit a number of cleaners to work in its schools starting from the next academic year, with the aim of overcoming the repercussions of the lack of such workers in schools, reports Aljarida daily.

According to educational sources, the ministry is working on forming a committee that is expected to leave for India in May.

Coordination is currently ongoing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian embassy, as well as with the Embassy of Kuwait in New Delhi, to arrange the travel of the committee members, and carry out the process of ratifying and documenting contracts.

One of the labor offices in India will be assigned to ensure the safety and speed of the procedures.

The contract with the workers will be direct, as they will receive a lump sum salary of KD 190.

The sources affirmed that the Ministry of Education had cleaning contracts for five educational zones for a period of three years, but these contracts concluded in September 2022. The procedures for cleaning contracts for the Capital educational zone are currently being completed, and are expected to be signed soon. The total cleaning contracts for the six educational districts amount to more than KD 30 million.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Education fell into a dilemma during the COVID-19 crisis with the termination of some cleaning contracts as well as the lack of commitment of some companies in providing cleaning workers. This had prompted them to seek the help of cleaners from the Kuwait Municipality to clean schools at the beginning of the school year.
