The United Arab Emirates, one of the most powerful parties in Yemen’s war, has begun to draw down its forces in past weeks in 2019, leaving the Saudi-led coalition with a weakened ground presence and fewer tactical options. The withdrawal of several thousand troops comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, and as the Iranian-allied Yemeni rebels known as Houthis increase their attacks on Saudi Arabia. JEDDAH, July 26 (KUNA) — Coalition anti-aircraft forces shot down a pilotless aircraft buzzing in direction of southern Saudi city of Jazan. The coalition forces this morning intercepted and brought down a remote-control drone launched by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias in the direction of Jazan, said Colonel Turki Al- Maliki, the Saudi-led alliance for supporting restoration of legitimacy in Yemen, in a press release on Friday. All hostile acts on part of the hostile Houthi militias will end up in failure, Col. Al-Maliki said.

The alliance forces will take all possible measures to deter the terrorist Houthi militia, in line with the international humanitarian laws and conventions, he pledged. Fighting has been ongoing in Yemen since 2015 after the Houthi militias occupied the capital Sanaa. The rebels, aligned with troops loyal to the slain ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh, have been engaged in bitter fighting with troops led by the legitimate president Abdrabbu Mansur Hadi.

Saleh was assassinated by the Houthis in 2017 amid reported power struggle. In addition to the internal fighting, the Houthis have been launching recurring attacks with missiles and explosives’ rigged drones on Saudi towns and cities.
