KUWAIT CITY, July 8: The Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), in coordination with the concerned authorities, has so far blocked 83 Instagram accounts due to the unauthorized usage of these accounts for commercial activities, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources. Sources disclosed the authority has been coordinating with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry since last year in the closure of social media accounts proven to have committed violations. Sources said 19 Instagram accounts were blocked recently, while 64 were blocked earlier.

Sources confirmed that the ministry provided CITRA with the list of sales websites for the first time in July 2020; indicating the list consists of 54 sales websites, details of each suspected website, and types of goods marketed on these websites. Sources added CITRA has developed a system that regulates the procedures for blocking prohibited electronic content, as part of its responsibilities to set the policies and procedures for accessing information on the Internet. Sources explained this step is aimed at limiting access to unwanted content and those with electronic risks, in addition to obligating Internet service providers and those managing content to obtain a quality assurance license.
