Citizenship of twenty under the microscope – ‘125,000 people violate Residency Law’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: Files of more than 20 Kuwaiti citizens are currently being examined to determine whether or not their citizenships have to be revoked, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources.

They revealed that the files contain data that contradict the statements of the witnesses and the official letters obtained from other Gulf countries.

The sources indicated that preliminary investigations revealed that the files include indications of forgery which enabled those individuals to attain Kuwaiti citizenship, access benefits for almost 30 years and facilitate the citizenship of their children and grandchildren. Around 125,000 people who have violated the Residency Law are now waiting for governmental solutions to their problems, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources.

Sources affirmed these people are willing to pay the corresponding fines but not this time because their salaries are too low. Sources disclosed these people include Arabs and other foreign nationalities, while three-fourths of them are males. Sources said the Residency Law violators are expecting a decision that gives them an opportunity to rectify their status by allowing them to return to their home countries without paying a fine and then come back to Kuwait on a new visa.

Sources went on to say the processing of transactions for these erring individuals has been suspended, so they are afraid to go to any of the residency affairs departments in the six governorates.

Meanwhile, Civil Service Commission (CSC) has refused to reduce the working hours of female Bedoun employees of ministries and state institutions who are pregnant or breastfeeding their babies, reports Annahar daily quoting informed sources.

They said CSC has affirmed to Ministry of Health that the Bedoun segment are not eligible to receive any allowances or have their working hours reduced for maternity reasons or take special leaves. The sources indicated that the issue related to Bedoun teachers over maternity and emergency leaves will be discussed further in a meeting to be held by CSC soon.
