NCCAL recognizes Abdullah Al-Muhailan

A documentary film about the late artist Abdullah Al-Muhailan shown during the opening of 2nd Kuwait Film Festival

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 16, (KUNA): Cinema is one of the most important means that contribute effectively and forcefully to building cultural bridges among people, the Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), Ali Al-Youha said. The remarks were made on his behalf by Sheikha Intisar Al-Sabah at the inauguration of the second Kuwait Film Festival. Sheikha Intisar added NCCAL is working to build a purposeful cinema based on professional crews to bring audience back to the big screen after a noticeable drift toward smart phone screens.

Sheikha Intisar pointed out that the festival aims to create an opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas among different generations working in the field of cinema, and hopes that the festival will be an opportunity to develop this industry, taking into account the rapid conditions and developments in the film industry Meanwhile, a documentary film of the late Kuwaiti actor Abdullah Al-Muhailan was shown during the inaugural ceremony of the Second Kuwait Cinema, which was held recently at Kuwait National Library under the auspices of the Secretary General for National Council of Culture, Arts and Letters, Engineer Ali Al-Youha, represented by Sheikha Intisar Al-Sabah. Al-Youha emphasized the essence of interacting with a range of experiences in different cinema productions ranging between long and short fictional, cultural, documentary or artistic films. He disclosed the founding fathers of cinema production in Kuwait during the 60s left behind rich legacies.

A late Al-Muhailan has been selected as the “Personality of the Festival” due to the indelible mark he left in the development of cinema production in Kuwait through his unique and fantastic works. Meanwhile, Director Ghafel Fadhil disclosed that he will begin to film his series, “Masa’alat Waqt “ (Matter of Time), with Amal Al-Awadi and Lebanese artiste Rafik Ali Ahmad in November; indicating the filming locations will be in Kuwait and Beirut, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
