CID men nab man spreading false rumors, stirring panic in society

KUWAIT CITY, March 18: Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested an unidentified person for spreading unfounded rumors in the social media through an audio clip who claimed to be a media person and said five people infected with the virus have escaped from the Jaber Hospital and have not been seized yet and the authorities are preparing 50 mass graves for burying victims of corona, reports Al-Anba daily.

The security source pointed the issued was handed over to the e-crimes department of the Ministry of Interior and the suspect was taken into custody immediately.

He also allegedly promoted a rumor saying an Arab country which is infected with the coronavirus is asking for ransom to return Kuwaitis to their country. The security source said the suspect claims to be a Kuwaiti.

The source also said such news reports are not only dangerous, unfounded but creates bad blood between countries. The suspect also said the government has not done enough to deal with the emerging coronavirus, and criticized the restaurants and the car repair workshops in Shuwaikh which continue to operate and said they are the main source of spreading the virus.

The security source reaffirmed the danger of spreading baseless rumors, stressing that Kuwait does not hide any facts and that there is absolutely no truth about patients infected with the coronavirus escaping from the hospital. The source also said no ransom has been requested by any country and that no graves have been prepared to bury coronavirus infected dead as alleged by the suspect.
