Charities to distribute surplus vegetables and fruits to distressed families in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, May 16: Number of government agencies along with Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor have completed a process of coordination with companies supplying vegetables and fruits and some food commodities, that the surplus vegetables be delivered to Kuwaiti charities which will be distributed for the distressed families and specially to those who have lost or are facing interruption in employment due to corona crisis in Kuwait.
Coordination process regarding the handing over of surplus vegetable will take place through a network of state agencies headed by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Interior.
The surplus vegetables and fruits and some food commodities is due the closure of restaurants and hotels and number of take away joints.
The Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Maryam Al-Aqeel confirmed in press statements that government agencies have received many complaints from consumers due to the lack of some commodities, especially vegetables and fruits, stressing that all means are provided for the delivery of food supplies to their consumers, but some cooperatives have failed do its part. She stated that she would not hesitate to take legal measures against any failing cooperative society that does not provide all the requirements of consumers, and that all other relevant authorities will punish violators each in its own jurisdiction without exception and the law will apply to everyone.
