‘Cars causing traffic chaos to lose number plates’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The number plates of vehicles which disrupt the flow of traffic will be confiscated starting from Sunday, says Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs in the Interior Ministry Major General Fahad Al-Suwaiy who also serves as Director General of the General Traffic Department.

In a press statement, Al-Shuwaiy disclosed that after the cancellation of the registration plates, violators should pay the corresponding fine to get their vehicles back.

He clarified this decision was taken due to a remarkable increase in traffic violations, indicating that the spreading phenomenon of traffic obstruction has prompted the department to invoke Article 42 of the Traffic law which states: “It is permissible for the Director General of the General Traffic Department to withdraw the driving license or registration plate, with one or both as administrative withdrawal for a period not exceeding four months.”
