Camping season to begin on Nov 15

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 13: Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Environment Public Authority (EPA) Sheikha Al-Ibrahim says the date for the start of camping season has been set on November 15, reports Al-Qabas daily.
She explained that the camping season will last for three months. All areas where camping is permitted will be covered with the cooperation of the Kuwait Municipality to ensure the implementation of the environmental law.
The authority will tighten its procedures for following up violators in terms of the construction of earth mounds, and the use of cement and excavations in camping sites using heavy equipment. They will be followed up with the cooperation of the municipality and the environment police, and legal measures will be taken against them.
The authority, along with other state authorities, is continuing to comb the various land sites and following up violations. A total of 160 environmental violations were detected in several sites through environmental police officers since the launch of the campaign on August 14.
Al-Ibrahim called on those wishing to take advantage of the camping season to avoid erecting earth mounds, digging, and using cement, to stay away from high pressure towers, and abide by the rest of the requirements mentioned in the executive regulations in order to avoid fines and preserve the environment and public safety.
The ten environmental taboos in the coming camping season are –
- Carrying out work that damages or deteriorates the natural environment
- Establishing any fixed facility with construction materials or making earthen fences or mounds to define the camp boundaries.
- Carrying out soil dredging operations or making any excavations on the ground.
- Settlement of camps with heavy machinery and equipment.
- Dumping all kinds of waste in camping areas
- Pollution, destruction or damage to the ground and surface water area.
- Paving the camp with asphalt, cement or any other materials harmful to the environment
- Hunting, killing, catching, gathering, or harming all wildlife and their young.
- Burning waste in the open environment.
- Prohibition of grazing in camping areas.
