KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at Ministry of Electricity and Water Yousef Al-Ojaili disclosed that the number of employees tasked with carrying out field surveys in investment buildings and commercial complexes to grade and classify them in preparation for the installation of meters in each commercial shop will be increased, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a press statement, Al-Ojaili said he met with inspectors of the sector from all governorates on Tuesday to instruct the expediting of field surveys so that the ministry can launch the meters in the commercial sector. He allotted a deadline by when the inspectors must gather all necessary data of the investment and commercial buildings so that he can submit them to the undersecretary. He requested the inspectors to allot 100 employees from each governorate to participate in carrying out the field surveys so that the task can be completed as soon as possible.

Al-Ojaili stressed that the ministry is currently working on launching an awareness campaign for the owners of investment buildings and commercial complexes after Eid Al-Adha holidays. Meanwhile, the private sector controls about 70 percent of the mega projects in the country, which are mainly in the construction sector.

This indicates the government’s tendency to seek the services of the private sector lately, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources. They affirmed that most of these projects are run by engineering, construction and consultant companies that are leaders in the market. Revealing that the government invests money only in the oil and petrochemical sector, the sources said all big projects are left to be managed by the private sector with the government support in order to encourage investors to come to Kuwait and start their projects here.
