KUWAIT CITY, April 24: The Cabinet is expected to announce the tender for the new passengers building at Kuwait International Airport with a budget of KD1.312 billion in its meeting, which will be presided over by HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak on Monday, reports Al-Anbaa daily quoting sources. Sources disclosed the Ministry of Public Works will most likely start taking actions regarding the terms of the contract in favor of Limac Contracting Company.

On the other hand, sources said the Cabinet will ask Minister of Public Works and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Dr Ali Al-Omair to coordinate with other concerned ministers regarding the draft laws included in the priority list of the government in order to refer them to the relevant parliamentary committees for deliberation before the current legislative term ends.

In addition, the Cabinet will instruct the minister of commerce and industry to implement the recommendations during the grilling by MPs Ahmad Al- Qudaibi and Mubarak Al-Herais, sources added. Sources affirmed the government is getting ready to execute the recommendation of the Legislative Committee in the Assembly to edit a report on uncollected charges that will be forwarded to the Budget Committee. Meanwhile, sources from the Supreme Council for Planning and Development revealed that 244 projects or 46 percent of the projects for fiscal 2015/2016 have yet to be implemented. Sources denied the allegation that the senior governmental officials caused the delayed implementation of these projects.

Sources asserted there are many other factors behind the delay such as the lack of follow-up, failure to hold responsible all those who caused the delay despite the availability of budget, and absence of clear timetable for the execution and handover of the projects. Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Road Sector in the Ministry of Public Works Eng Ahmad Al-Hassan has confirmed completion of 90 percent of the construction and maintenance of infrastructure serving the Central Prison, reports Al-Jaredah daily.

Al-Hassan said the project will be handed over upon completion by the end of June, affirming the project is being implemented in accordance with the timetable. He disclosed the project costs KD 12,230,000 including a road measuring 33 kilometers, another that is 663,000 kilometers long, a drainage system, sanitary network, street poles and fire extinguishing system. He also confirmed opening of the U-turn along Nuwaiseeb Highway in cooperation with the General Traffic Department on April 27, 2016. He added the ministry will open two new Uturns on the same road in May in order to reduce car accidents.
