KUWAIT CITY, Nov 25: Several GCC countries along with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have been monitoring the radiation level in the Arabian Gulf waters following the theft of a radiation device that belongs to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, reports Al-Shahed daily.

Director of the GCC Emergency Management Center Adnan Al-Tamimi expressed concern regarding the theft of the radiation device which was used for industrial purposes, revealing that the vehicle transporting the device was stolen. He explained that scientific estimation indicates that the radiation device will lose half of its power 74 days after it is used.

Nevertheless, the matter should be dealt with caution if the purpose behind the theft was to smuggle it to this region. Al-Tamimi stressed that the fact that the level of security is very low in Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant as well as Iran’s non-commitment to transparency concerning its nuclear programs are terrifying.
