‘Breast cancer awareness campaigns, early detection of diseases vital’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Cancer Awareness Nation (CAN) launched its annual breast cancer campaign dubbed “You … deserve our care”. At the event, the Chairperson of CAN Dr Khaled Al-Saleh affirmed that the number of breast cancer patients among Kuwaiti women in 2012 was 212 representing 35.8 percent, and that of their non-Kuwaiti counterpart stood at 205 constituting 39 percent.

In a speech, Dr Al-Saleh pointed out that breast cancer remains the number one cancer in Kuwait ever since monitoring of the disease in the country was done in the seventies, and “it continues to occupy the top position”. This clearly indicates the importance of awareness campaigns and early detection of the disease and self examination of the breast, he mentioned. He also said CAN adopted clear strategy for awareness campaigns considered to be part of CAN activities, at the foremost, breast cancer awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Center for Fighting Cancer marked its breast cancer awareness campaign held annually in the month of October. In a speech, Deputy Director of Kuwait Center for Fighting Cancer Dr Reem Al-Asousi affirmed keen interest the center attaches to awareness campaigns, with the aim of providing necessary information about breast cancer and ways of prevention.
