KUWAIT CITY, April 14: Internal and blood diseases consultant Dr Fawzia Al-Khaldi confirmed that blood plasma injections with antibodies help get rid of coronavirus, reduce its effects on the body and increase the chances of recovery, reports Al-Rai daily.

In an interview with the daily, Al-Khaldi explained the blood plasma therapy uses plasma from donors who recovered from coronavirus, affirming this has been proven effective in treating Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and swine flu.

She said the initial results of Chinese and Italian experiments on the use of blood plasma in treating people with corona are promising, indicating that plasma therapy is being used in most countries affected by the pandemic as it an option mentioned in current studies.

She revealed the plasma treatment contributes in reducing the duration of dependence on respiratory resuscitation, reducing death rates and increasing recovery rates; noting that studies have proven it is very beneficial to add plasma in the support therapies for corona patients. She said 600 mm plasma can be extracted from the blood of the donor and three patients can benefit from this quantity, pointing out the Chinese studies showed that each patient needs a single dose of 200 mm.
