FBCK bowlers ready to strike

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 2: At the on-going 2017-2018 FBCK All Filipino Cup Bowling Team Tournament being held at the Bowl Station bowling lanes in Fahaheel and organized by the Filipino Bowling Club-Kuwait, the Black Team of Gani de la Cruz and Ron Favor succeeded in keeping the top spot in the team standings after eking out a close win over the third ranked Yellow Team. In another tightly contested match, the Yellow Team of Robert Opena and Christine Moreno moved up to second place after brushing aside the Red Team.

In the only other pairing of the 6-doubles team field, White remained in contention through an easy win over Green Team. Prior to the scheduled week 4 match, Black Team with 4,388 was 68 pin falls ahead of Blue Team who garnered 4,320 pin falls followed by Yellow Team- 4,290, Red Team-4,184, White Team- 4,029 and Green Team with 3,974. Moving on to the featured match of the week between Black and Blue Team the two front runners of the tournament, the Blue Team tandem of Michelle Avila and Rudymer Florendo took the early lead with a 361-320 win in game one of the 4-game series match. In the next game and with Gani de la Cruz finding the range, Black Team eked out a 371-326 victory to grab a slim 4-lead. With Gani de la Cruz still in tip top shape and his partner Ron Favor doing his share of the scoring chores, Black routed their opponents in game three 410-317 and widen the gap to 97 pin falls going to the final game of the encounter.

As the Black Team firepower died down, Blue pair of Michelle Avila and Rudymer Florendo seized the opportunity to try and reverse the outcome but their 359-291 win failed to prevent Black Team from clinching a 1,417- 1,363 total pin falls victory. Meanwhile, Yellow Team who went up against Red Team improved to second in the team standings after trouncing Red Team 1,404-1,367. To book the victory, the Yellow partnership of Robert Opena and Christine Moreno banked on their superb showing in games one and two where they vanquished their rivals via 385-298 and 368-317 scores.

The Red Team of Joseph Balo and Ceddie Faa did come back strong in the next two games but unfortunately their 404-343 and 348-283 victories fell short a mere 12 pin falls of what is required to overhaul Yellow Team’s advantage in games one and two. And in the only other match of the week, White Team who submitted the best team output of the week defeated Green Team three games to one enroute to a convincing 1,561-1,392 total pin falls victory. Bannered by the father and daughter tandem of Mandy and Myrah Manalo, White ground Green in games one and two 400-332 and 397-356 to take a commanding 797-682 lead.

Down by a seemingly unsurmountable 115 pin falls Jason Gamba and Florencio Fajardo nevertheless returned in game three still hoping for a come from behind win after posting a 397-356 victory. Still ahead by a wide margin Mandy and Myrah Manalo of White Team went on to close the match with a 409- 314 victory in game four. In the individual awards, the High Game (scratch score) record currently belongs to Gani de la Cruz (211) for the Men’s Group and Michelle Avila (193) for the Ladies while the High Average holders are Gani de la Cruz (168) for the Men’s Group and Michelle Avila (167) for the Ladies.
