Big sports event to be held at Jaber Stadium by year-end – Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled commends int’l sports stadium

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16, (KUNA): Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah said on Monday a big sports event would be held at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium by year-end at the behest of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince. Speaking to KUNA on the sidelines of a customary cabinet meeting, the minister said: “We are planning to hold a sports event at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium by year-end.” A ministerial committee, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al- Hamad Al-Sabah inspected on Sunday the international stadium, which fulfills high specifications and technology and is supplied with sophisticated equipment, facilities and safety and security systems. The committee said a grand ceremony would be organized for the opening of the Kuwaiti stadium.

The committee comprises Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah, Director-General of the Public Authority for Sports Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and senior authority officials. Meanwhile, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said Jaber International Stadium was built in line with international standards and was equipped with latest technology. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, who chaired a ministerial committee inspecting the stadium, told reporters he was happy with what he has seen in the venue, which was equipped with modern safety and security systems.

He thanked the Amiri Diwan, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah and the Public Authority for Sports (PAS) for contributing to the Jaber stadium. Sheikh Salman said the political leadership was keen on supporting the sport sector through the development of sport facilities. He thanked all authorities for their efforts to make Jaber stadium, named after late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, ready to host sport events. Sheikh Salman said that Kuwaitis “can be proud that the stadium was among the best in the Middle East technically wise.” He said the stadium encountered some technical and administrative problems “but this chapter is over now.”

Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah said “once the international ban on Kuwait sport is lifted, we will seek to host international teams to play in this stadium.” PAS Director General Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Sabah expressed gratitude for His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince and His Highness the Prime Minister for their relentless support for sport and sport projects. He said a delegation from the world’s football governing body (FIFA) rated the Jaber stadium nine out of 10. PAS Deputy Director General Dr. Hmoud Fulaiteh said the authority’s sport facilities sector completed the maintenance of the Jaber stadium which has thus became ready to host games. Jaber International Stadium, 12 kms southwest of Kuwait City, is built over 400,000 square meters and can house 60,000 fans.

The stadium, which looks like a sail ship from the outside, is equipped with LED screens and spider cams, and is the only stadium in the Middle East with a Goal Control technology. Fans will be able to select their seats when they buy the tickets, and the stadium is equipped with screening machines for bags, monitoring cameras of parking lots and seating areas, as well as special rooms for firemen, policeman and paramedics. The stadium has 300 seats for the disabled, rooms for the press and news conferences.
