Bid to smuggle 2 million sachets of tobacco foiled

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Customs officers at the Shuaiba Port (Southern Ports Customs Department) thwarted an attempt to smuggle into the country nearly 2 million sachets of tobacco, which were hidden in a container.

According to the customs sources the contraband was hidden in a cargo of household glassware. Giving the details the customs sources said, the 40-foot container came from port from Jebel Ali and it contained “glass household utensils”, and by carefully inspecting it, about 2 million sachets of tobacco were found. The daily added, the consumption (chewing) of tobacco is banned by law and is regarded as a kind of a drug that causes throat cancer.
