KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: The judicial police team of the Ministry of Electricity and Water carried out a new and widespread campaign to inspect the prohibited telecommunication towers in private residential areas based on the decisions of the Municipal Council, reports Al-Anba daily. The Deputy Team Leader Ahmad Al-Shammari said the presence of telecommunication towers in private residential areas and the subsequent violations related to electricity extensions and the increase in pressure on the network are considered as serious violations in accordance with resolution No. 121/2017, which prohibits the extension of electric power without the approval of the ministry.

Violations
He explained that it is the first time, at the level of the state authorities, that such a move is being made to stop the violations of these towers in private residential areas. It is within the competence of the Kuwait Municipality, which is entrusted with monitoring and regulating these towers that it has been prohibited in private residential areas, as it poses a threat to the public health. Power was cut off to a number of these towers, after warnings were given and posters were placed to instruct their removal.

Approval
The presence of these towers requires approval from Kuwait Municipality, the Ministry of Health, Directorate General for Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Communication. These authorities do not give these permits in private residential areas, which are prevented by the Municipal Council. Therefore, the serious violations of those towers, represented by electrical installations without the knowledge of the ministry, affect the safety of the power network and people’s lives. In a different context, Al- Shammari said the number of citations issued this month in the north region reached ten in Capital, Jahra and Farwaniya governorates. He affirmed the continuation of the team’s strategy to focus on shanty houses and slums that may cause many problems at peak times.
