Baskaran outlasts rivals to lead Malaya Cup Level A – Pranav and Penaronda top Level B

KUWAIT CITY, July 9: The Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait (FILBACK) headed by their Overall Director Noel Candolesas and tournament Directors Nato Calanog and Alex Hernandez along with the other officers and members organized another exciting tournament the Malaya Cup 2016 which is being held at the Al Nasser Sports Complex.

The first week of the game was a success as many Badminton enthusiasts registered and competed in the tourney. The game did not only hone the players’ skill but also their sportsmanship and friendship.

There will be 3 Fridays of elimination where players will be paired in rotation and 4th Friday for the Finals. Ranking will be based on the points earned during the elimination. 50 points for the 2 set game winners and 42 points for the 3 set game winners.

Level A

In Level A Category, Nitin Baskaran ranked 1 with 186 points, 2nd was Joy Villanueva with 184 points, Noel Candolesas with 182 points came in third and Mathew Jacob with 176 points.

During the game, Nitin team up with Jess and slammed Arnel and Ziyad 21-20, 21-15 and with Ziyad they tamed Shiva and Arnel 21-10, 21-15 as he and Edison thumped Shiva and Henry 21-17, 21-17. Meanwhile, Joy and Neilbert slammed Aleks and Gigi 21-18, 21-12, She and Binu tamed Gigi and Ainur 21-18, 17-21, 21-16. Joy and Ainur outclassed James and Noel 14-21, 21-19, 21-11 while she and Nato defeated James and Rafiq 21-20, 21-18.

On the other hand, Noel paired with Berlin and defeated Aleks and James 21-17, 21-19, he also teamed up with Erick and thrashed Aleks and Nato 21-12, 21-19 as he and Berlin beaten Aleks and James 21-17, 21-17. Mathew paired with Henry beaten Edison and Ray Allan 21-15, 21-18, together with Gigi they prevailed against Henry and Binu 21-17, 17-21, 21-18 as Mathew and Eric thumped Henry and Nestor 21-17, 20*21, 21-17.

Level B

In the Level B Higher Category the players in top ranks were Pranav TJ with 192 points and Carlito Talampas in second with 178 points. Pranav paired with Joel and clobbered Fred and Arnel 21-8, 21-13, he and Sripad pummeled Fred and Joel 21-19, 21-14. Pranab and Addy flattened Aqueel and Ambar 21-13, 21-9 while he and Ambar triumped over Addy and Aqueel 21-1, 17-21, 21-18. Meanwhile Carlito and Aqueel tamed Quintin and Rico 21-19, 21-18, together with Rico they outclassed Addy and Ambar 21-20, 21-20. Carlito and Addy overcame Arnel and Rico 17-21, 21-20, 21-16.

In the Level B Lower Category, the highest scoring players were Brent Penaranda with 192 points followed by Jeanette Eustachio with 190 points. Brent together with Annalea defeated Jeanette and Richard 17-21, 21-11, 21-19 paired with Jeanette they smashed Annalea and Richard 21-12, 21-15. Brent teamed up with Lowela and hammered Albert and Annalea while he and Albert trampled Lowela and Quentin 21-15, 21-18. Meanwhile, Jeanette with Quentin tamed Majeed and Melissa 21-19, 21-19 and with Sunnyray they smashed Richard and Melissa 21-15, 21-11.

Level C

In the Level C Higher Category, Mishal Khaldy with 184 points and Liza Delos Pobres with 173 points are the leading players. Mishal together with Jory outclassed Amor and Romy 17-21, 21-14, 21-15 and with Emily they thumped Romy and Leonor 21-8, 21-15. Mishal and Zarah tamed Liza and Apol 21-15, 21-19 while he and Leonor prevailed against Romy and Emily 21-17, 16-21, 21-18. On the other hand, Liza with Emily defeated Chito and Leonor 21-17, 21-18 while she and Leonor tamed Chito and Emily 21-16, 21-18.

In the Level C Lower Category, the top players are Susan Santos with 184 points and Loizel with 179 points. Susan together with Joy Agaloos overcame Joy Ampo and Aurora 21-13, 20-21, 21-16, together with Loizel they tamed Aurora and Mishari. Susan and Talal overcame Arman and Joy Agaloos 21-19, 21-16 while she and Joy Ampo outclassed Anne and Henedine 13-21, 21-17, 21-15. On the other hand, Loizel and Henedine smashed Claire and Julie 21-13, 21-17 as she and Anne tamed Joy Agaloosa and Yousef 21-15, 21-14.

Level D

In the Level D Higher Category, Ricky Tanghal got 200 points and Krista Murillo got 192 points, while in the Level D Lower Category are Essel Bunyi with 192 points and Elenita Marquez with 187 points.

During the game, Ricky and Virgie outclassed Irene and Juzziel 21-1 7, 21-19, while he and Krista pummeled Maricel and Jun 21-14, 21-5. Ricky and Lhen clobbered Nuri and Jun 21-11, 21-9 as he and Nuri thumped 21-8, 21-17. Krista together with Essel flattened Surya and Jun 21-7, 21-11 and with Irene they overcame Juzziel and Maricel 20-21, 21-8, 21-15 and with Lhen they thrashed Juzziel and Rima 21-15, 21-11. Meanwhile, Essel and Juzziel trampled Irene and Virgie 21-17, 21-12 and with Lhen they slammed Sorya and partner 21-9, 21-5 and with Sorya outlasted Rim and Lhen 12-21, 21-17, 21-16.
